Cutting a rug: Nile Rugs
Shape, size and colour; rugs can change the look and feel of a room, creating vibrancy, serenity or whatever the homeowner wants.
Christchurch’s Nile Rugs takes pride in providing New Zealanders with genuine hand knotted rugs imported directly from their source of production.
“We are delighted to present a collection of hand-woven and hand-knotted Persian rugs, Kilims and cushion covers,” says owner Adnan Yaqub. “We are a unique rug store as we travel to the areas where oriental rugs weavers have honed their skills for centuries; this allows us to handpick the greatest pieces for our customers. That is why we have the largest collection of hand-knotted vintage and antique rugs in New Zealand.”
Persian rug styles:
Over-dyed Persian rugs have been hand-knotted in Iran many decades ago. Later, these vintage rugs have been shaved down to lower pile, deep washed and then re-dyed (over-dyed) one colour.
Distressed Persian rugs are shaved down to lower pile, deep washed and then bleached out to make rugs faded and distressed on purpose.
Persian rugs represent a trend that has achieved a crossover between fashion and home décor. This new look celebrates rugs that are faded and worn over time; rugs that nestle into homes as if they’ve always been there. That’s why interior designers and home decorators love these rugs.
