It’s a perfect time of year to take a road trip up to Hanmer Springs and enjoy its activities before winter sets in.

One of the true delights of a road trip is pulling up to a roadside café to sample its coffee and food fare. Such a gem is Red Post Café only 30 minutes out of Hanmer Springs in the village of Culverden.

For nearly 18 years under the ownership of Trent and Carolyn Allison, this café in a picturesque restored villa has been seen as a welcome oasis and a fantastic pit stop with efficient, friendly service and a wonderful variety of food.

“We’re well into autumn now,” says Trent, “and although we are not actually looking forward to winter coming, we are looking forward to providing our guests with the type of food that is warm, hearty and comforting for those winter days. We love to make dishes such as shepherd’s pie and sausage rolls, along with a range of delicious soups – everything from seafood chowder or pumpkin soup to curried kumara soup or leek and potato soup. It all suits the cosy and inviting atmosphere we create here.”

The wide variety of dishes and baked goods on offer is the hallmark of this popular café. It’s all homemade, and dietary requirements are also catered for.

Trent and Carolyn say that everything is made with love and from a genuine desire for there to be an option for everyone.

Visit Red Post Café at 2 Highfield Street, Culverden, open 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 8am to 4.30pm on weekends.
