Contemporary Cool: Majuba Gallery
If you find yourself at the picturesque locale of Hanmer Springs this summer, a visit to contemporary art space Majuba Gallery, 5 Conical Hill Road, should be top of your list.
Currently their featured artist is South Westland born and raised Kelvin McMillan, whose simple architectural subjects – be it a derelict shed, a rural railway siding or group of mailboxes – captures the stark magnificence of our New Zealand landscape with skilful accuracy. Kelvin has exhibited widely throughout the South Island and was recently invited to join Landscape Artists International – a first for a New Zealand artist.
For lovers of exquisite bijoux, browse the gallery’s Dyrberg/Kern collection. From bold and edgy through to whimsical, boho-chic, there will be something in this signature Danish jewellery range of stainless steel, sterling silver, gold plating, semi-precious gemstones and Swarovski crystals that has your name on it. Don’t leave town without it!
