Being sun smart

The delightful blossoming of tulips and daffodils comes along with an increase in harmful UV rays. While it’s important to wear sunscreen every day of the year, spring is a good time to remind ourselves to keep our skin safe from the sun.

Wear sunscreen
Not just any sunscreen, make sure it is SPF30 or higher, broad spectrum and check out sunscreen brands on Consumer NZ to see if they measure up to their claims. Remember to apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside and re-apply every two hours or after being in water.

Wear a hat
A hat that covers your head, ears, and neck is ideal. Get inspiration for an envious hat from Rose’s luxe purple hat in the Titanic. Hat hair is an easy sacrifice to make to ensure your scalp stays scorch-free.
A burnt scalp is a one-way ticket to sunstroke and a flaky week.

Seek Shade
Even with the best SPF sunscreen, our skin can only handle so much time in direct sunlight. Make sure to find a shady spot to cool off regularly on days when you’re going to go outside alot or bring a chic umbrella or sun tent the next time you go to the beach.
