Awesome avocados


Plentiful at this time of year, avocados are delicious, and nutritious, on their own, or in any number of culinary dishes, from simple to sublime.

Avocados contain a wide range of nutrients and may have various health benefits. These include improving digestion, lowering the risk of depression, preventing bone loss, supporting heart health, protecting against cancer, and more. Also known as an alligator pear or butter fruit, avocados are actually a type of berry.
A popular avocado dish is guacamole, first developed in Mexico, and now used internationally as a dip, spread, in tacos, and as a condiment. Try this Jamie Oliver recipe, with your add-ins:

Guacamole

Ingredients

1/2 a small red onion
1-2 fresh red chillies
3 ripe avocados
1 bunch of fresh coriander, leaves only
6 ripe cherry tomatoes
2 limes
Extra virgin olive oil

METHOD

  1. Peel the onion, deseed 1 chilli, then roughly chop it all on a large board.

  3. Chop it all together until fine and well combined.
  4. Roughly chop the coriander, add the tomatoes, then chop it all together.
  5. Add juice from 1 lime and
    1 tablespoon of oil. Season to taste with salt, pepper and more lime juice, if needed.
  6. Finely chop and scatter over the remaining chilli if you like a kick.
