A worthy reason to run!
You can’t run it naked, but your joy will be unconfined as you gambol your way over the gentle rolling hills, serene shady valleys and ‘a-year-in-Provence’-worthy vineyards of Pegasus Bay Winery, to help raise funds for Canterbury’s own world-renowned New Zealand Brain Research Institute.
The gorgeous and fun Vine Run is back once again better than ever, and will next be held on Sunday 26 January 2020. There is a 6km, 10km and a brand new 18km race. Walkers are very welcome on the 6 and 10km routes, but note that the courses are not suitable for wheeled conveyances in any form. There are no age categories within the races, with the emphasis being firmly on fun for everyone.
Literally the brainchild of Ivan Donaldson, co-owner of Pegasus Bay along with wife Christine, the inspiration for this great event was his career as a neurologist and long association with the amazing New Zealand Brain Research Institute.
“We’re working hard to make 2020 our best Vine Run yet,” event organiser Mike Donaldson says. “Last year we raised $26,000 for the institute and we’re aiming to do even better this time. To help beat the heat, we’ve brought the start time forward a little and will also have a marquee at the finish to encourage people to stay on after the race and celebrate. There’s a great opportunity here for corporates to sign up as a group, and we hope as many people as possible will get in the spirit by dressing up.”
You can step up your contribution to the New Zealand Brain Research Institute by becoming a ‘Brainy Runner’ – if your fundraising effort tops $300, you will receive a Brainy Runner Vine Run sports top and there are prizes for the top three Brainy Runners on the day. There will be live music at the finish line, so bring a picnic or enjoy the catering options of Pegasus Bay.
Entries are limited and each participant aged 18+ receives a bottle of Pegasus Bay wine to take away. The first three males and females home in each race receive a prize, and there are spot prizes too.
