When you go away on holiday you need to protect your hot tub as you would your other cherished valuables. It’s an ideal time to call in your pool maintenance team, or with a few simple steps, you can do it yourself.
Short periods (3 to 5 days)
Use a test strip to check levels and adjust the pH, either bring the alkalinity down using a sodium bisulphate-based product or up by using a sodium bicarbonate-based product.
Check the water level, that it is just above the
highest jet
Sanitise the water with chlorine or bromine using the proper amount
Rinse and clean filters
Lock the cover for safety
Extended periods (5 to 14 days)
Set temperature to its lowest level (approximate water temperature of 26 deg C)
Do the same as above
Extended periods (5 to 14 days)
Sanitise the water, following shock procedures
Check the water level and adjust if needed
Return the water temperature to the original setting
Ensure that the chlorine level has dropped below 5 parts per million
Leave the lid open for a bit to let it breathe.
