A sustainable step forward: Hair Art & Beauty
Want to feel good about looking good? Hair Art & Beauty has officially partnered with Sustainable Salons NZ so now you can.
As part of the Sustainable Salons family, over 95 percent of waste generated in the salon is now recycled, and any proceeds go directly to initiatives that help strengthen our communities.
All plastic waste is converted into plastic beads and given a new life, remade into furniture, packaging, and even glasses frames. So far, Sustainable Salons has prevented nearly 90,000kg of plastic waste from ending up in a landfill.
A big area of waste in the salon industry is metals, from hairspray cans and colour tubes to aluminium foil, a lot of which cannot be processed through our standard recycling system. These are now sent to specialty recycling facilities, and the proceeds from these recycled resources are donated to KiwiHarvest, an organisation that redistributes excess food to those in need. Every four full heads of foils done at Hair Art & Beauty provides a meal for someone in need.
Even our hair clippings and chemical waste are recycled. Hair is converted into booms to help clean up oil spills; human hair can hold over eight times its weight in oil, making it super effective for this purpose. To prevent our chemical waste from ending up in waterways, it is sent to a processing facility where it is converted into CO2 and water, which is then used in construction and roadworks.
We are so excited to be continuing our journey of sustainability and social responsibility. To learn more, contact the team at info@hairart.co.nz.
