Christchurch designer wins on the world stage
Inside the residence that won Christchurch interior design team Detail by Davinia Sutton a coveted international award.
Set against the striking alpine landscape of Wānaka, Christchurch interior designer Detail by Davinia Sutton’s Lakeside Residence has taken out the International Design Award at the Designerati Awards in London, an accolade that recognises exceptional design from leading studios across the United Kingdom and beyond. Lakeside Residence is a study in contrast and restraint. Set within one of Aotearoa’s most dramatic natural environments, the home balances sculptural form with softness, creating interiors that feel both grounded and elevated.

At the centre of the home is a kitchen designed not simply as a workspace, but as the social heart of the residence. A sculptural island anchors the room, paired with integrated dining and finely resolved detailing that allows the surrounding landscape to take focus. Framed by expansive views of lake and mountain, the space is warm, deliberate and deeply functional, designed for gathering, connection and everyday ease.
Throughout the home, a restrained material palette brings cohesion and calm. Natural finishes add warmth, while strong architectural lines lend a sense of quiet drama. The result is an interior that feels considered and enduring, where beauty is found in balance, craftsmanship and a strong sense of place.
