A real grass act: Al-Mows
A well-mown lawn with classic British stripes is indeed a thing of beauty.
A chieving that result for his clients all over North Canterbury gives Alan Davies immense satisfaction.
“Mowing is what I do,” says Alan. “That’s why I called my business Al-Mows – obvious really.”
Alan delights in driving his ride-on mowers or his push mower over any size of lawn – from a small size town lawn to one at a large life-style block.
“I changed my occupation back in 2015 from being an engineer to working in the outdoors giving me the opportunity to meet
lots of wonderful people and to help improve the appearance of their properties. Proper mowing techniques improves the quality of a lawn and the health of the grass itself, and decreases weeds.”
Alan’s engineering background ignited his creative side, and he is fostering this through a new venture. He has managed to source a supply of rustic sleepers that were originally decking timbers at Lyttelton Port, and he is displaying what they can be used for in a garden, at local farmers’ markets.
“Clearly they can be used as edging material or to make planters, but we have also made them into what we call ‘feature garden art’. You can just give your imagination free reign. The rustic appearance has real appeal and certainly will make a feature statement in any garden.”
