The right rug: Persian Rug Gallery
Bringing any old rug into your home may meet some practical needs, such as adding insulation and delineating an area. Having a handcrafted Persian rug is next level, adding exquisite unrivalled beauty and a timeless elegance to your home.
Whether you are looking for a small rug for a doorway, or a centrepiece for a large living room, there are endless options to choose from, all at the Persian Rug Gallery.
The rugs come from a range of countries, such as Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Turkey, and each rug comes with a certificate of authenticity. “We would love you to come in and browse for exactly the right thing,” says sales assistant Sam Jackson. “Every one of our rugs is unique. It continues to amaze me that no two pieces are exactly the same.”
All hand-knotted rugs are constructed with natural eco-friendly materials: wool and/or silk pile, on wool or cotton foundations. Wool is extremely durable, and woollen hand-knotted rugs can last for many decades, often outlasting their owners.
“Hand-knotted rugs take a lot of time and effort to produce, as each knot is added individually,” says Sam. “Every motif and symbol on the rugs have meanings and stories. By their very nature, these rugs cannot fail to enrich any interior.”
Along with hand-knotted rugs, there is also a range of machine-made options available, encompassing a selection of traditional Persian patterns as well as many modern and abstract designs, for those who prefer a less formal style. You will also find an intriguing mix of kilims, cushions, saddle bags, salt bags, and handbags. These are all handmade and are an easy way to add touches of warmth and authenticity to the most straightforward of interiors.
There are two stores in Christchurch and one in Wellington, and the website allows you to see the designs from the comfort of your home. “We regularly add more of our collection to our online catalogue,” says Sam. “You can buy online, and have your rug delivered anywhere in the country. Online purchases can be returned within 14 days for a refund if the rug isn’t perfect for your needs.”
