Unforgettable wedding gowns: Brides of Merivale

“How do I start the process to look for a wedding gown?” is one of the most asked questions by brides.

Luckily Brides of Merivale are experts in their field with over 25 years in the Canterbury wedding scene.

The first step is to arrange a consultation. Brides of Merivale offer a one-hour initial appointment for a small $30 fee. You have the entire showroom to yourself during the allocated time, with one of their expert consultants to advise and suggest styles to suit your figure and vision.

“We recommend a bride starts the search at least 9-10 months prior to their wedding,” says owner Lisa Dermott. “Companies can take up to six months to deliver product. Starting early can eliminate last minute stress.”

If your wedding is within short time frames, there is a selection of gowns to purchase off-the-rack.

Some are ex-sample styles that have been discounted, “they are perfect for quick turnaround weddings or elopements,” says Lisa.
Brides of Merivale stock leading labels such as Made With Love, Kellylin Couture, Wendy Makin & French Collection, Miss Chloe, and arriving soon, Miss Scarlet.

“As a store we are quite unique. All of our close-knit team are trained couturiers who can individually create a bespoke gown or alter our ready-made gowns to perfection. Bespoke made-to-measure gowns allow brides to create their perfect gown without compromise,” adds Lisa. “We are very proud to offer a full in-store service to our brides. It makes the process more special.”

TRENDING NOW

So, what are the trends right now?

“Beading, sequins and texture is popular, and we are also seeing a lot of simple plain gowns. Style-wise, strapless and off-the-shoulder is making an impact. Layering with changeable pieces is a definite trend,” Lisa says.

Overall brides wear what suits their body, personality, and colouring. It’s a complex process to work through.
That’s why seeking advice from experts can help.

“For our latest collaboration shoot we showcased a modern vibe within local Christchurch venues. With the weather thwarting our initial plan to be outside, our favourite professionals pulled together to create stunning images. The result shows no matter what the day, if you have the right professionals behind you nothing can ruin your day.”
