Flu Season: Unichem Cashel Street & Forté Pharmacy

As the leaves are turning, now is the time to start thinking about getting the influenza vaccination.

Annabel Turley, Pharmacist and owner of Cashel Street Pharmacy and Forté Pharmacy

Influenza is a common viral illness that is especially easy to catch in winter. Influenza (flu) symptoms can be quite severe and can include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, and sometimes diarrhoea and vomiting.

The flu can sometimes lead to more severe complications, particularly in those with weakened immune systems, the elderly, and young children.

The best protection from getting the flu is the annual flu vaccine, washing hands regularly, and avoiding close contact with sick people. You may need antiviral medication to make the symptoms less severe. If you become sick with the flu, staying home from work or school is important to avoid spreading the virus to others.

There are a few groups who are eligible for free flu vaccinations. These include Māori communities and Pacific peoples aged 55 to 64 years, pregnant people aged 65+, people with certain medical conditions, and children under four who have experienced respiratory illness.

Fight the flu this year and come into our Cashel Street or Forté pharmacy for a quick vaccination. For employers, you can also book us to come out to your organisation to vaccinate consenting workers.
