Touch your inner creativity: Art Metro

Creativity needs time, space and encouragement. What creativity doesn’t need is judgement or grading, set expectations and prescribed curricula.

Kindergarten memories of experiments with paints, clay, and playdough are intrinsic to most of us, but somewhere along the line expressing ourselves in the visual arts dropped out of the picture, so to speak.

At Art Metro, the format and diversity of tuition allows everyone to rediscover or develop their interest in creating art. The variety of tutors and courses available means you can choose the technical or stylistic approach you want to take. The range is broad because tutors are encouraged to bring their own expertise and approach to the school.

Tutor Mike Southern is teaching a painting workshop investigating Raphael, da Vinci and Michaelangelo to Art Metro over two weekends in June. “It’s a specific way of painting – and we will take a step by step approach to painting your own portrait.” Aimed at beginners or anyone more familiar with the materials, Mike is excited to teach the course.

With a background in printmaking, Mike’s experience in working in lights and darks translates to his more recent passion for portraiture. “It will be great to see the response and the stylistic flourishes that people bring to it.”
