Where plans come to life: the Canterbury Home Show

From Friday 20 to Sunday 22 March, the Canterbury Home Show brings more than 150 local building and home improvement businesses to Addington’s Wolfbrook Arena for a showcase of what’s new and what’s next.

As the first hints of autumn settle over Christchurch, conversations at home begin to shift. That tired kitchen. The deck has seen better days. The bathroom renovation that’s been living on a Pinterest board for way too long. For many Cantabrians, this is the season of possibility, and the Canterbury Home Show is where those ideas start to take shape.

From cutting-edge building materials to clever storage solutions, energy-efficient heating to bespoke cabinetry, the show offers the rare opportunity to compare products and services side by side.

Instead of juggling multiple appointments across the city, visitors can speak directly with industry experts, ask detailed questions and gather quotes in one place.

“This time of year is when many Cantabrians start thinking about projects they’ve been putting off,” says general manager Amanda Magnus.

“The Canterbury Home Show makes it easy to explore options, meet local experts and gather practical advice. It’s as much about the experience as it is the products: a chance to spend a few hours being inspired, discovering what’s new, and having real conversations with local businesses about what’s possible for your home.”

A garden to spark the imagination
New this year is a professionally landscape-designed and built garden feature, a living showcase of outdoor possibility. Thoughtfully curated to highlight a range of themes, materials and layouts, the installation demonstrates how clever design can transform spaces of all shapes and sizes.

Whether you’re working with a compact urban courtyard or a sprawling suburban backyard, the feature garden offers tangible ideas that can be adapted to suit your own setting. Expect plenty of inspiration to carry into the cooler months ahead.

A day for the family
Sunday brings an extra dose of energy with Family Fun Day. Young DIY enthusiasts can roll up their sleeves at hands-on workshops hosted by Mitre 10, learning practical skills in a fun, supervised setting. Alongside the workshops will be a line-up of free entertainment and activities, making it easy for parents to browse while the kids are happily engaged.

It’s this blend of practicality and atmosphere that gives the show its appeal. Make a day of it. Register online in advance to receive a complimentary show guide, complete with seminar timetables, an exhibitor list and planning tips.
