Veils and Tails

Pets are family, and fur babies like these cuties are stealing the show at weddings around Christchurch.

Beloved furry friends are increasingly taking centre stage at our weddings as people design their big day around their loves and lives. So, if you’re a bride who doesn’t want to be upstaged by her pooch, be prepared, your pet is going to get a lot of attention. Pets make ceremonies truly special for the wedding party and guests alike. There are though, a few things to consider before you put a hat and bow tie on Rover…

  • Is your pet going to be comfortable at a bustling, busy event? (The last thing you want is a stressed pooch taking a nip at someone, or raiding the wedding breakfast).
  • Choose a pet-friendly venue and double check with them about bringing pets.
  • Hire a pet sitter or dog walker to take care of your pets during the ceremony and reception. Think about your pet’s safety and well-being. Ensure there’s shelter, water, a designated toilet area, and a quiet space available for them during the event.
  • Bring along a pet bed, toys and their favourite treat.
  • Make sure your pets are comfortable wearing a collar and tags with your contact information.
  • Consider allergies and cultural requirements of guests; let them know your pet will be there.
  • Train pets, and if possible do practice runs before the wedding.
