Used vehicle imports up

The removal of the Clean Car legislation at the end of 2023 is one probable cause for increased imports of used vehicles.

Registrations of these jumped 25% year-on-year in January 2024 to 8915 units from 7135 in the previous corresponding period.

Toyota led the used import market with 3316 registrations, followed by Mazda (1329), Nissan (1277), Honda (659), Subaru (653), Suzuki (254), Mitsubishi (239), BMW (218), Volkswagen (205), and Audi (178).

The Toyota Aqua led the used import market with 872 registrations in January 2024, followed by the Toyota Prius (651), Mazda Axela (443), Toyota Corolla (420), Nissan Note (383), Honda Fit (304), Subaru Impreza (302), Nissan X-Trail (301), Nissan Serena (292), and the Mazda Demio (290). The removal of the Clean Car Discount/Fee legislation was also reflected by the 71.3% increase in the registrations of imported used commercial vehicles to 687 units in January 2024 from 401 in the previous corresponding period. Toyota led the used import commercial market with 350 registrations, followed by Nissan (161), Ford (40), Hino (36), Isuzu (26), Mitsubishi (22), Fiat (8), Mazda (8), Daihatsu (7), and Volkswagen (7).
