The ultimate kitchen companion

Two of the best kitchen purchases I’ve made in recent years have been a slow cooker and a pressure cooker.

Those two appliances, perhaps along with an airfryer, facilitate the creation of virtually any meal you can imagine. However such appliances need to be stored, and if cupboard space is at a premium, then these supremely practical gadgets all of a sudden become not so practical at all.

But what if they were combined into one handy appliance? One that can sauté, simmer, slow cook or fast cook using steam and pressure, yet still provide the capacity to feed a crowd. The Instant Pot Rio Wide Multicooker is just such a machine.

The Instant Pot Rio Wide Multicooker is a versatile and powerful kitchen appliance for those who love to cook but don’t always have the time to spend hours in the kitchen. With its wide range of functions, this multicooker simplifies meal preparation, delivering delicious results with minimal effort. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a home cook looking for convenience, the Rio Wide has something to offer.

My colleagues at Metropol were treated to some delicious soups over the the chilly winter weeks, and they were so simple to create. Fry off onion and garlic in the large 7.1L stainless steel bowl, then add the remaining soup ingredients. Close up the lid and either slow cook overnight or pressure cook for about 20 minutes. Then all that’s required is to blitz it up in a blender or using a stick blender. The great seal on the lid made it easy to just transport to the office and plug back in, with no worry about spillage.

Roast chicken is another dish where the Instant Pot Rio Wide truly shines. The pressure cooking and roasting functions work together to create a succulent, juicy chicken in no time at all. By using the pressure cooker first, you can infuse the chicken with herbs and spices, locking in the moisture and flavour. After the pressure cooking phase, the roasting function crisps up the skin, but I found I got better results if I took the chicken out and gave it a final blast in the airfryer to get that all important crispy skin.

Pressure cooking corned beef is another area where the Instant Pot Rio Wide excels. Corned beef, which traditionally takes several hours to cook, can be prepared in just a fraction of the time with this multicooker. The pressure cooking function tenderises the meat, making it incredibly juicy and flavourful. The Rio Wide’s ability to maintain consistent pressure and temperature ensures that the corned beef is cooked evenly, resulting in a meat that is both tender and moist.

It comes equipped with various cooking modes, including sauté, steam, and bake, allowing you to experiment with different recipes and techniques. The user-friendly interface and pre-programmed settings make it easy to operate, even for those who are new to using multicookers. So simple in fact, that I am yet to even look at the manual. Instant Pot Rio Wide Multicooker offers a host of other features that have made it my go-to appliance, even if I have other ways of cooking the same dish. The ease of cleaning up just one pot makes this an attractive option. There are endless recipes to follow online, and when the cooking is as easy as this, even the most average cooks can produce delicious feasts.
