The taste of tomorrow: The Dish

Everyone needs a consistently wonderful Asian-fusion restaurant in their life; a place where flavours are stunning, staff are friendly, and the ambience is relaxed yet stylish.

For five years now, Christchurch has been lucky to call The Dish restaurant one of those places. Enjoy everything from a mid-week lunch catch-up with friends to a business dinner that will impress the out-of-towners. Owned by a group of three family members and friends, each is passionate about creating the very best in Asian-fusion cuisine, and this restaurant is their dream brought to reality. Located at 376 Montreal Street, the team has successfully combined glamour with comfort by showcasing the high ceilings with sculptural light fittings, and keeping table settings simple.

“We are thrilled to have come through the Covid period in one piece,” says co-owner Mon Thirawongpaisal. “We are still busy and thriving, and everyone’s favourite dish is our signature beef cheek massaman curry.”

Open for lunch from Monday to Saturday and every night for dinner, discover plenty of choice on the menus, catering for vegetarian and gluten-free diners, and offering monthly specials. “We have two set menus for four people or more, and we enjoy catering for functions of up to 20 guests,” says Mon. “Cup and Show Week is always really busy, as is the run-up to Christmas, so we advise booking as early as possible.”

A range of delicious cocktails and mocktails with names like Bangkok Sipper, Kungfoo Pandan, and Mr Kaffir bring the party mood to every celebration. To finish the occasion, it is difficult to go past the house-made coconut ice cream with moong dal, peanuts, and caramelised pineapple.
