The Influencers: Ross Steele
An industry feast
It has been amazing to watch confidence returning to our industry and see conference delegates in and around our city during the the past few months.
Recent reports show hotel nights are up, we’re seeing people are heading out and about more, and at Te Pae Christchurch our booking calendar for this year is filling up.
It’s very much a team effort, but we are pleased to be able to play a role in regenerating our city and region post-Covid-19. Since we began hosting events in May, Te Pae Christchurch has generated around $20 million in economic value for Ōtautahi Christchurch.
During that time, we have hosted more than 60 events – including 27 multi-day conferences – for local, national and international guests.
We’re proud that Te Pae Christchurch is beginning to have a positive impact on local suppliers, including those providing our food and beverages. This includes the suppliers of our locally-sourced produce, which for the first three months of operations included: 4578 litres milk; 886 litres cream; 2418kg beef, 2106kg lamb; 875kg pork; 4715kg poultry, 1068kg seafood; 2621kg fruit; 4687kg vegetables; 4000 bottles of Waipara wine and almost a tonne of coffee beans.
And it goes further than just our direct spending, with events at Te Pae Christchurch contributing 28,000 hotel nights to local accommodation providers.
We hope the increased confidence will continue and be the catalyst for further investment in the ongoing regeneration of Christchurch, leading to more development and opportunities for our city.
