Te Papa Hauora Chair Peter Townsend: Looking forward to a busy 2025
Te Papa Hauora Health Precinct is going to be a very busy locality as we move into the new year.
Next year will see business as usual in terms of supporting and facilitating health education, research, and innovation, and there are other exciting developments afoot.
With Parakiore Metro Sports Facility due to be completed later in 2025, plans are advancing rapidly on how best the facility can support the health and wellness of the wider community.
The juxtaposition of Parakiore and Te Papa Hauora was a deliberate post-earthquake strategy, to support connections and promote health and wellbeing in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
Recent announcements relating to the proposal to develop a CAR-T therapy manufacturing facility in the Precinct has generated a lot of excitement. We are looking forward to seeing this cancer treatment national capability beginning to take shape next year.
And Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka University of Otago’s continuing commitment to the new $250 million building in the heart of the Precinct will add depth to the Health Precinct’s offerings. Details on exactly how it will be utilised will become clearer in the year ahead.
The Health Precinct is a unique construct in New Zealand, and it’s so encouraging to see it evolving at pace. It is yet another attribute that helps make Ōtautahi Christchurch the national city of choice. Roll on 2025.
