Summer’s calling
Warm weather is here, and local designers are tapping into that energy for their summer and resort collections. By Nina Tucker.
Fun, fresh, and flamboyant is what you’ll find in the fashion zeitgeist right now. We’re seeing prints, patterns, and so much colour, much-needed after lengthy winter. Butter yellow and mellow pink look to be staple hues of the season, with some deep reds emerging to keep in tune with a classic Christmas colour scheme. This summer, lean into clothing concepts that let you feel free and alive.
Swimwear: the only thing you need to do for a bikini body is to own a bikini and have a body. Tick. With warmer weather comes a gruelling battle with confidence for many, in ourselves and our clothing. Search for a positive mindset, and focus on the fun the summer sun brings. Think about how your legs allow you to swim in the sea, and your stomach perhaps birthed the family you celebrate the season with, and that is more important than what people see on the exterior.
Accessories: capturing the essence of sun rays and beach days are woven textiles. From straw hats to totes and handbags, and even headbands, embracing raffia and woven materials in your accessories elevates a summer look.
Event-ready: a laid-back day-to-day rotation calls for added glam and feminine energy at events. Silver is having a big moment through jeans, bags, and shoes, while pretty pink
dresses and ensembles offer class and flirtatiousness.
