Scenic and historic settings: Ferrymead Heritage Park

It’s not often that you are spoilt for both choice and historical ambiance when it comes to a location for a wedding.

That is the case at Ferrymead Heritage Park, home to an early 1900s township. You might opt to have your ceremony in the quite stunning 1911 heritage chapel with its original stained glass windows, and traditional wooden pews. It’s now non-denominational, so you are welcome to arrange your own celebrant and to personalise your ceremony.

Perhaps though, a ceremony on a railway station platform might provide the wedding with a difference you could be looking for. The Heritage Railway Station is located alongside the park railway tracks in the heart of “Moorhouse Township”

The choices don’t end there. The park’s Friendly Societies Lodge is a great option for a wedding reception. French doors open out on to a delightful lake, complete with water wheel, that could be a setting for either a ceremony or for a photo shoot. And of course there is the park’s famous Wedding Tram that is not to be missed.

”We have even more outdoor locations for ceremonies or photos, says Park and Finance/HR Manager Vanessa Hale. “These include the Heritage Rose Garden, or on the jetty under the willow tree by the lake. Over the years we have been able to offer such a variety of locations to suit individual tastes that we have had generations of families marry here.”
