Sandpit fun: Playcentre Shop

Sandpit play offers lots of great benefits for toddlers and young children. It can help to enhance motor skills, spark creativity, and learn in a fun way.

From digging and sifting, to creating scenes for animals and fantasy creatures, building sand castles and creating tracks for toy cars, there’s endless possibilities with a sandpit.

The Canterbury Playcentre Shop has an array of tools, games, and toys that are perfect for sandpits. Some of the toys on offer include stack up cups, spades, drillers, rakes, scoops, sand moulds, and more. They allow children to engage in messy play, and are great fun in the backyard as the days start to get longer and warmer.

“There is also a lot of science that can be conducted in the sandpit,” says shop co-manager Jessamy. “You can look at how the water erodes the sand away, and make a volcano by mixing vinegar and baking soda. You can also look at the different textures that form when you put water in, for example, liquefaction forming. There’s lots of science experiments that you can do with the water and the sand.”

You can visit The Canterbury Playcentre Shop at 17 Buchan Street, Sydenham – they’re available for any advice you might need about sandpits.
