Return of a delicious delicacy: Red Post Cafe
The season of happiness has arrived. And we aren’t just talking about the warmer days. It is officially whitebait season!
A delicacy that holds a special place in the hearts and bellies of Kiwis, a whitebait fritter is always a long-awaited delight that arrives along with spring.
Red Post Café in Culverden is renowned for their celebration of whitebait season. Its fresh West Coast whitebait is always courtesy of the same and trusted supplier each year, and is of the highest quality.
West Coast whitebait is on offer in the café for three months from September to November, always deliciously fresh.
The café is just an hour and a half out of Christchurch, making for a lovely weekend trip or the perfect stop when passing through.
Red Post Café’s whitebait fritter is offered in a few ways for your choosing; in a sandwich of fresh German sourdough, as a meal with salad and fries or on its own in all its glory – although always with a slice of lemon nearby.
Café owner Trent Allison says the garden is very pleasant to sit in during this time of year. Enjoy a fritter and a glass of wine al fresco style in the beautiful garden, you can’t ask for much more than that.
Add the café to your next day out. Open from 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 8am to 5pm Friday to Sunday.
