Restoring breast balance: The Fitting Room
Breast Cancer Awareness Month spotlights the lifestyle changes that come with mastectomy surgery and an utterly new feeling when getting dressed.
Restoring that feeling of balance in the body and easing the mind with support and knowledge is The Fitting Room.
From immediate post-surgery options providing soft comfort and ease, to the six-week stage where daily bras slowly return to the rotation and it’s time to get fitted for a prosthesis and styles, meet every step with their team.
A core service, the specialists are highly trained, and experts in finding the ultimate fit and feel, giving comfort and support along the way. Registered with Te Whatu Ora, The Fitting Room can make claims for the subsidy on behalf of the customer, with a copy of the medical certificate and a signature.
This mission is what catapulted the early team into lingerie. “My sister in law had a mastectomy and found there weren’t many options in Christchurch for a one-stop shop for getting bras and prostheses together,” co-owner Deborah Lewthwaite says. It’s a mission they will never give up on, Deborah shares. Innovations in bras and prostheses, including lightweight prostheses, the team is constantly searching for the best options to stock their shelves, such as styles that can be worn against the skin. “We source the best of everything that we can, including comfortable, practical, and seasonal colours and designs.”
