Realty rocks her world: Fernanda Hammett

In 2001, Fernanda Hammett left her home and family in Brazil for an extended visit to Christchurch, primarily to perfect her English.

São Paulo, with a population in excess of 20 million was a far cry from the Garden City of Christchurch, population circa 450,000. The effusive, fun loving and adventurous 17-year-old embraced the city, its people and the experience. Within two years she had an excellent grasp of the language and had fallen in love with the Kiwi culture, including one Kiwi in particular, along with his seven siblings and parents who were later to become her in-laws.

That cross-continent love affair has blossomed since the couple married in 2002. In June this year, Fernanda and Josh Hammett will celebrate 20 fabulous years of marriage, three children Kash (13), Nina (10) and Bela (5) and a successful business enterprise born out of a fierce sense of passion, perseverance and outstanding people skills.

Fernanda is a real estate agent for Harcourts Grenadier and at last year’s annual industry awards event in Wellington, she was placed first-equal in the Best Client Experience category.

For Fernanda, the accolade was a fitting reward for five years of hard graft, tenacity, commitment and dedication to her clients and the team she works alongside.

“It was such a positive affirmation. The best reward. I love my job and I love the people I work with.”

Fernanda welcomes a call from anyone thinking of buying or selling. Based in Halswell, she works across the city and rural areas with current listings in Cashmere, Kaiapoi, Bryndwr and Halswell.

Fernanda’s top three tips when preparing your home for market:

  1. Declutter; get rid of those piles of unnecessary mess and jumble. Stuff. Be. Gone.
  2. Imagine you are the buyer and visualise the home from their perspective. Is it sparklingly clean? Are there fresh flowers? Are the lawns mown? Have you provided all the information a buyer may want e.g. LIM, Title?
  3. Stage the property if it is vacant. If not, add selected pieces to create the ‘wow’ factor; colourful cushions, luscious plants and sumptuous throws are just the beginning.Email Fernanda.hammett@harcourts.co.nz or call her on 021 029 05176
