Painting Christchurch in real-time colour: Dulux

Ever noticed how a city looks completely different depending on the time of day or the weather? Cotton candy clouds or moody, stormy skies catalyse our creative vein – as we wish for a way to replicate those hues at home.

Internationally renowned paint brand Dulux is bringing that idea to life in Christchurch with a digital billboard that changes colour based on its surroundings.

Stimulating our local skyline, the billboard on Addington’s Lowe St brings to life Dulux Colours of New Zealand LIVE: a dynamic campaign that uses real-time imagery to reflect the vibrant, invigorating hues of the Garden City. Be that the warm glow of the morning sun over Hagley Park, the cool blues of a crisp Canterbury evening, or the soft greys settling in before a piercing Southerly rolls through – the Dulux swatches on the billboard update every two minutes.

Groundbreaking technology meets the Dulux team’s innovative eye, in a demonstration of just how much the city’s colours transform throughout the day. “Nature creates some of the best colour schemes, and this campaign brings that to life in a really engaging way,” says Shontelle Crosswell, Dulux NZ Head of Marketing. “Whether it’s a clear, sunny day or a chilly Christchurch drizzle, the billboard will reflect the colours of its surroundings – so no two moments will look the same.”

The billboard will be live for six weeks, drawing the attention of commuters and locals in the bustling Addington area. On your next route through Lowe St, glance up at the sky, take a moment to breathe, and watch the colours change. Visualise those shades shown on the Dulux billboard in your spaces at home, and let them seep into a creative project that will energise your weekend.

Alongside the campaign, Dulux has launched the Find Your Dream Colour Scheme guide – a go-to resource for homeowners looking for the perfect exterior paint colours, inspired by the places and landscapes loved by locals.
