New Cancer Society support centre
The Cancer Society’s Canterbury-West Coast Division has selected Cook Brothers Construction to build its new combined cancer support centre and patient accommodation facility in Christchurch.
The contract was signed last month, says Elizabeth Chesterman, Chief Executive of the Cancer Society’s Canterbury-West Coast Division. “Cook Brothers Construction will be the main contractor on our new build project.”
Cook Brothers Construction is a national construction company with a longstanding history of restoration, rebuild and community-minded projects in the Christchurch region.
The new Cancer Society facility at 74 Langdons Road in Papanui is due for completion during the first quarter of 2023.
The project received $6.5 million from the New Zealand Government’s Shovel Ready Project Fund, with the remaining cost to be covered by insurance and land sales from the organisation’s earthquake-damaged facilities, as well as a fundraising campaign.
In addition to providing accommodation and transport services, the Cancer Society provides education and support services for cancer patients and their families.
The organisation also undertakes national and regional health promotion and prevention programmes as well as coordinating and funding cancer research.
