Meet the cushion queen: Becky Lee
March marks a meaningful milestone for Christchurch’s cushion couturier Becky Lee.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been four years since I first began my cushion business,” says founder of The Cushion Couturier Becky Lee. “This March is particularly meaningful, it’s been one year since moving solely from an online presence into my beautiful little boutique and workroom in St Albans,” she says.
This new space is where Becky spends her days crafting cushions, sumptuous and sophisticated, to adorn homes in Christchurch and far beyond. “This first year in the shop has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve learnt so much about the rhythm of retail, but even more about trusting my own creative instincts. Realising that what I offer genuinely resonates with customers has been both validating and a powerful reminder of the value of self belief.”
Over the years, Becky has become crystal clear about the aspects of the interior design industry she loves. “Working with colour and textiles is my superpower. It’s a pleasure to help customers discover fabrics and colour combinations that express their style and personality, and beautifully enrich their homes. I’ve observed again and again an undeniable sense of joy and deep satisfaction experienced by women when they see their creative vision come together,” Becky says with a smile.
“My love for colour, pattern and character-filled interiors has always guided my work and it’s refreshing to observe the swing back to interiors embracing lived-in design and thoughtfully collected rooms. Unique has taken the place of uniform, and quality and provenance are increasingly important considerations for every single purchase you make for your home.”
Cushions are a simple yet powerful way to help tell your story. Whether subtle or bold, they can shift the atmosphere of a room. “I’ve always believed we should surround ourselves with things we genuinely love, and helping customers find that perfect cushion pairing – or working alongside them to create custom designs is the most rewarding aspect of my work at The Cushion Couturier.”
