Manage shedding

Furry pets can bring such joy and happiness, but their fur that collects on the couch or a new outfit? Not so much.

Cats and dogs shed year-round, but shedding tends to reach its peak in the spring and autumn, making now an optimal time to figure out a plan to manage shedding.

Start by brushing your dog’s or cat’s coat frequently to remove the dead hair and encourage healthy growth. Brush pets with thick double coats weekly and long-haired breeds twice a week. For ease of clean up, bush them outdoors.

Bath your dog or cat (good luck) regularly to remove dander and dead hairs. Bathing also prevents matting and dirt accumulation that can lead to increased shedding. Be sure to use a gentle shampoo that won’t dry out their skin.

Prepare your home by protecting your furniture with covers that are easy to wash, train your pets to keep off furniture and keep a supply of lint rollers on hand for easy cleanup of a fluffed-up outfit.

As a pet owner, it’s unlikely that you can avoid shedding altogether. However, it’s a small sacrifice to pay for the delight of a pet’s company.
