- Check it
Check your garage door at the change of each season. Take a look at the tracks, springs and locks. Make sure that items in the garage are not at risk of falling into the path of the door or the tracks. Rakes, brooms and sport equipment are likely culprits. Check over the panels to make sure that no dents have appeared and sweep around your garage door to remove debris that can gather quickly, particularly over autumn and winter.
- Clean it
Every type of garage door will benefit from being washed frequently with a soft cloth to prevent blemishes and corrosion to the paint. Grit, sand and wayward leaves can all hinder the performance of your garage door.
- Look out for small signs of a larger issue
A properly functioning garage door should not be overly noisy and it should open and close steadily. There also shouldn’t be a delay between pressing the button and the door beginning to move. Some of these minor issues can develop into bigger problems, especially if you are opening and closing several times a day.
- Maintain it
Aaron and Hilary recommend that when you first install a new garage door it is checked within 12 months and then every two years.
