Life’s biggest questions: Isaac Theatre Royal

How did we get here? Is there life beyond Earth? Can you actually lick your own elbow? Introducing Creation Creation, a deeply thought-provoking journey of life’s biggest questions answered (sort of).

At Isaac Theatre Royal’s Creation Creation on Sunday 12 November, two wildly inventive performers set out to tackle these very questions, and many more, with nothing but cardboard boxes, ping pong balls, and an imagination as big as the universe itself.

This joyful explosion of theatre, sculpture, and puppetry is part cosmic quest, part cheeky comedy, and all heart. Crafted from real-life interviews with people aged eight to 102, Creation Creation is an award-winning Australian Windmill Theatre Company production that explores life’s mysteries through the voices of the community. From “how are babies made?” and “what does dying feel like?” to “what will life be like in 1000 years?” The questions are big, the answers profound, sometimes hilarious, and always deeply human.

This critically acclaimed production is being presented in Christchurch for the first time as part of the Isaac Theatre Royal’s bold new programming strategy, which champions creativity, diversity, and connection. In keeping with this kaupapa, the theatre is offering one free school performance for tamariki across the region, as well as a public performance with complimentary tickets available for whānau who may not otherwise be able to attend. “We’re committed to making sure incredible theatre experiences are accessible to all our communities,” says Anh Nguyen, marketing manager at the Isaac Theatre Royal.

“Creation Creation is funny, tender, thought-provoking – designed to spark conversations across generations.”

To ensure the production is welcoming to as many audience members as possible, the public performance of Creation Creation will include live New Zealand Sign Language interpretation for deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons. This is storytelling at its most inclusive: part science, part wonder, part playground. Whether you come out with more questions or fewer, Creation Creation promises one unforgettable ride to the edge of the universe and back. Head to the website to book tickets now.
