Leaps and bounds: Mayor Phil Mauger
From floods to earthquake anniversaries, resilience and spirit remain core to the future of our city.
Iwant to take the opportunity to reflect on the month we’ve had – February is a short month, but one that carries real weight for Christchurch.
The 15th anniversary of the 22 February 2011 earthquakes reminded us of all we have been through together, the lives we lost, and the incredible strength of spirit that has carried our city forward.
We’re still seeing remarkable momentum in new museums, businesses, accommodation, health facilities, and even a new flight route have all opened their doors. The city is moving, and it shows.
A State of Emergency on Banks Peninsula, a boil water notice and the Wastewater Treatment Plant put that to the test. To every staff member, volunteer, and community member involved in all of those events, thank you so much. Your efforts did not go unnoticed.
In the midst of that, we’ve released our Draft Annual Plan, and now it is your turn to have a say. The plan outlines the services, activities, and capital projects we will deliver, and the rates required to fund them. Parakiore is live, One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha opens in April, and through it all, we have stayed focused on what matters most. Affordable, sustainable growth.
This progress, this city is the result of people backing our vision with their investment, their energy, and their belief in what we are building together.
