How to: School Holidays
Heading into the school holidays, it’s time to refresh that list of activities up your sleeve for when you need them most.
Nothing is worse than trying to entertain excitable, energy-filled littlest loves at home.
Metropol has you covered with these suggestions.
To educate and excite, get out and about to one of Christchurch’s local animal parks. Hand-feed a variety of different wildlife, take a guided tour, and learn about some of New Zealand’s native species. On a winter theme, visit the huskies and penguins, and jump aboard a Hägglund at the Antarctic Centre for an immersive and icy experience.
Warm up again with a meal at one of the many food markets just minutes away.
If you encounter some warmer weather, the Christchurch Tram allows hop-on, hop-off sightseeing of the city’s best bits, and children ride free. Beginning at Cathedral Junction, with stops at the picturesque Avon River and New Regent Street, and Margaret Mahy Playground, Botanic Gardens and Tūranga Christchurch Central Library to keep the young ones busy, the restored heritage trams are a must-do.
If you’re a parent who’s ended up with all the children, there are some great activities available to excite, and tire them out.
The city’s go-karting and arcade complexes make for family fun, and are an ideal destination for an all-day extravaganza.
Or utilise the mini-golf scene, putt with dinosaurs in a fully wheelchair accessible 18-hole course or with the Mad Hatter and friends, there’s plenty of options for some friendly golfing competition.
Trampoline arenas equate to a tonne of fun for young (and old). Sit back and watch the fun, or join in and show them how it’s done. Time short? Treat yourself to a rapid, interactive game of laser strike to promote coordination, and ENJOY!
