Ongoing research into Covid-19’s impact on society shows that loss of income, ever-changing workplace practices, and coping with pandemic protocols have increased stress levels exponentially.

Alopecia, baldness, dandruff, hair-fall, hair-loss, hair breakages, and pattern thinning, though often associated with any number of health issues, can also be stress-related.

Certified trichologist, Dr Padmaja Redekar of Hairmantra Hair and Scalp Clinic, has noticed a significant rise in clients seeking treatment for these problems in the past two years.

Dr Redekar says three signs indicative of an unhealthy scalp are hair that is oily the day after it’s washed, pain at the hair root, and the scalp showing as plainly visible through the hair.

“Hair and skin are the mirrors of the body. Our health status is reflected in our appearance and it’s important to not ignore those early signs that something could be wrong.”

Diagnosis by microscopic analysis detects the underlying cause of the problem and a healthy hair programme, tailored specifically to the client’s individual needs, is then drawn up.

Dr Redekar says consistency is key and that six-month treatments see outstanding results.
