For some Cantabrians, autumn is the ‘Goldilocks’ season and nowhere does it better than Hanmer Springs. Neither too hot nor too cold, at this time of year its rich bronze and golden hues, coupled with invigorating alpine temperatures, make it a great place to harness the healing powers of nature, and fill your cup with outdoor goodness, before the hibernation season really kicks in.

3 April, Hanmer Springs Easter Egg Hunt

A fun-filled afternoon at the Hanmer Springs Business Association Easter Egg Hunt, kicking off at 1pm on Friday, 3 April, on the Village Green at Chisholm Park.

Families and children are invited to take part in this much-loved Easter tradition, with four locations to visit across the village and snap your photo with the Easter Bunnies before collecting your eggs from the Village Green. 2 May, Hanmer Half

Entries are now open for the Hanmer Half, a flat, fun, and seriously scenic run that winds through the stunning Hanmer Heritage Forest of towering 100-year-old trees with breathtaking mountain views. Choose from the 21km Hanmer Forest Trail, starting with a climb up the iconic Conical Hill, and the 10.5km Heritage Traverse, a flat course perfect for a fun run or walk. hanmerhalf.co.nz

25 April, Skedaddle train run

Taking place at the majestic Island Hills Station, Solar Power NZ Skedaddle is one of the most loved trail events on the calendar, choose from five distances; 42km, 30km, 15km, 10km and a kids’ 4km, all point-to-point along stunning singletrack through the privately-owned Island Hills Station.

With nature at the heart of the event, all proceeds go towards conservation efforts for the Mandamus Reserve Charitable Trust, which includes the largest QEII Open Space Covenant in Canterbury. skedaddle.co.nz
