From roots to results
For truly healthy hair, opt for plants instead of parabens when you’re choosing products to put on your head.
Commercial shampoos and conditioners promise smoothness, volume, or shine for ‘healthy-looking hair,’ yet many achieve that through synthetic shortcuts that, over time, can do your hair and scalp more harm than good.
“People are waking up to what they’re putting on, and in, their bodies,” says Blair Coates, founder of natural Kiwi wellness brand Nudi Point. “Nature already gives us everything we need, and when we strip away the synthetic stuff, our bodies thrive. That’s what real wellness is about.”
Typical supermarket-bought, non-natural hair products contain ingredients like silicones that actually seal the hair cuticle, which prevents moisture from getting in, Blair says. Silicones make hair seem smooth and silky, while starving the hair of moisture and hydration. Over time, hair can become dry and brittle, and the scalp can become irritated and itchy.
One of Nudi Point’s bestsellers is their hair serum called ‘Jealous Much?’, which contains a powerhouse duo of argan and jojoba oils plus essential oils known for their therapeutic qualities.
“People love it because it’s 100 per cent natural, no harmful chemicals like sulphates, silicones, parabens and drying alcohols. It’s also perfect as a protective oil for hair straightening, keeping those strands happy and healthy,” Blair says. “Our products use natural ingredients that properly nourish the hair. While it can take a few months to see results, in the long run, hair will be much healthier.”
No longer a niche, the growth of plant-based beauty has seen the sector rapidly become mainstream. Globally, the natural hair care products market is projected to grow from about US$11.5 billion in 2023 to nearly US$17.9 billion by 2030.
