From fit-out to workout: Jim The Builder

Over recent years, we hear the word “pivot” used more and more in a business context. To pivot, is a strategic move a business can take to ensure it remains viable and profitable.

In rather tight economic times, such moves are crucial and Jim the Builder is one construction company that has taken this strategy to heart.

Normally specialising in residential builds, of late the company has undertaken an interior fit-out for a fitness centre and gym – Flex Fitness. “While it was not our usual gig, building is building,” says Jim Stenberg, Operations Director of Jim the Builder. “Flex Fitness moved to a new site in the heart of Riccarton and wanted a former commercial space converted to suit their needs. For them, a fit-out had to be of high quality and style—and that is exactly what they got.” That’s the trademark that has come to be associated with the Jim the Builder team, no matter the project.

Throughout the alteration phase, the builders worked around the fitness centre to allow them to keep trading as a 24/7 operation. “Since the original fit-out, we have gone back and carried out more work as Flex Fitness expanded the business into other spaces with massage rooms, a sauna, and more workout areas,” says Jim.
