Fairways to heaven

The grass is often greener on the golf course. Enjoy our guide to some of Christchurch and Canterbury’s best, just a short ‘drive’ away.

Golf is the most participated sport in New Zealand, with more than half a million Kiwis playing. Nationally, there are at least 400 golf clubs throughout the country, including 36 in Canterbury. Stunning golfing landscapes and ease of accessibility make our region one of the most popular places to tee off. Whether you choose to play for competitive purposes or recreationally, golf is an inclusive sport for all ages, genders and skill levels.

The sport’s social aspect is what makes it appealing to many. Take a fellow golfing friend or strike up a conversation with other players on the course. Similarly, it makes a great team-building exercise for sports teams and businesses.

Golf provides numerous wellbeing benefits, both physically and mentally. While it requires physical ability, it also involves a lot of concentration. As a sport or recreational activity, it promotes accuracy and focus, as well as hand-eye coordination.

Additonally, it has been found to reduce stress and anxiety by releasing endorphins. That in turn may improve a player’s mood and reduce pain. What are you waiting for? Swing into action.
