Eying up education: Anstice Optometrists

A recent study on New Zealand school children showed that 30 percent of Year 2 children suffered from a visual condition likely affecting their academic performance.

Pre-school vision screening, while effective at detecting severe visual conditions, does not screen children for reading vision. Problems with close-range focus can lead to decreased reading rate, accuracy and comprehension, says optician Jeremy Fox of Anstice Optometrists.

“Having a full assessment of your child’s visual system is recommended for all school age children, particularly those who are having difficulties with their learning,” he adds.

“A SchoolVision examination at Anstice Optometrists will include an assessment of your child’s distance and near vision with analysis of their visual co-ordination and tracking skills, all which can directly impact academic outcome.”
