Many ingredients are required for a successful café – delicious food, great coffee and excellent friendly service. One element that is sometimes overlooked however is the ambience of the environment.
The new owners of Heirloom Café in the Colombo – Ava and Rajesh – have definitely not overlooked that ingredient. Their cafe is light and bright with white walls and luxuriant plants dripping down off shelves and across the servery counter. “They take forever to water,” says Ava, “and I don’t have any plants left in my house, but they do make a real statement.”
The café is innovative in other ways as well, especially with the wide variety of drinks they offer. The cinnamon scroll latte and the blueberry iced oat latte are different and extremely popular as is the sparkling peach and frosted spice matchas.
Little twists on the usual are also evident in the comprehensive menu changed seasonally and available from 7am–3pm. The Eggs Benny can be accompanied with Gochujang Pork while the Smashed Avo has pistachio pesto and the Hash with Seoul features kimchi and chilli peanut hollandaise – all a glorious mash-up of delectable flavours.
Heirloom Café also has an ever-changing range of cabinet food and with its different spaces inside and outside is a perfect spot to catch up with friends or for work meetings.
