Exciting times ahead: Mayor Phil Mauger
Our city is firing on all cylinders and bubbling with optimism.
Wow – can you believe 2026 is already here! I hope you had a safe, fun and relaxing summer break. Hopefully, you had the chance to check out Parakiore over the holidays.
Opening that facility was a real highlight for me last year, but I’m picking 2026 is going to be another fantastic one for Christchurch. Something we’re all looking forward to is the opening of One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha, which is still on schedule and on budget.
It’s been a long time coming for the city, but excitement is really building, and the calendar of events is already filling up.
The stadium is set to provide the most incredible venue for business, community, cultural, sports, and entertainment events and bring with it significant economic benefits.
I cannot wait to walk through town on a big event day and see Christchurch’s wonderful restaurants, bars, cafés, shops and hotels full of people.
Alongside Parakiore, these facilities really are the icing on the cake for Christchurch’s rebuild, the final pieces of the puzzle.
We’re a city that’s not only recovered but is now blossoming. I couldn’t be more excited to keep building on our title of New Zealand’s most vibrant city and the ‘capital of cool’. So here’s to another successful year, let’s crack on with it.
