Destination North Canterbury

Many families are clamouring for a trip away to help them break winter’s monotony.

With that, comes the mission to find a destination that ticks as many boxes as possible, for everyone. A destination right on our doorstep is North Canterbury, filled with a plethora of activities and fun for all ages and stages.

Tee off

Golf courses galore, North Canterbury spoils those golfing fanatics with too many stunning courses to choose just one. Many offer scenic views and lush fairways to test your skills. Treat yourself to a golf-cart hire and spend the weekend trialling the greens, and following with refreshments.

Pitch a tent

North Canterbury’s offerings don’t stop at campgrounds, with many options nestled right by the sea. Fall asleep to the sounds of waves crashing and children giggling.
Get the whole family back to nature, and choose between a morning barbecue in the sun, or a delicious breakfast cooked
at a local café.

Life’s a beach

If you’re a water baby, Gore Bay is North Canterbury’s gift to you. This off-grid paradise is home to the Cathedral Cliffs, and includes a great beach for boogie-boarding or swimming (if you’re game). Popular among surfers, it’s an ideal family getaway, only a short distance from Christchurch, making it an easy go-to for a family mid-year beach break.

Welcome the whales

Pack a few extra road trip snacks and journey to Kaikōura, where day trips and deals are abundant. From whale and bird watching to guided walks, you’ll be kept busy and active. The town’s recent developments have made it a bustling hive that is constantly revisited. Deliciously succulent and fresh food from the sea, spectacular scenery and incredible wildlife make Kaikōura a highly desirable destination.
