Christchurch’s Central Business District (CBD) has much to offer visitors and locals alike, day and night.
Aside from its beautiful heritage buildings, the inner garden city is a revitalised precinct with many exciting hospitality outlets, eye-catching art and plenty of activities for all ages.
The CBD is easily accessible by car, bicycle, e-scooter, on foot and using public transport. Strolling the streets is idyllic, however hopping aboard one of the city’s iconic heritage trams is an even better way to explore it.
Christchurch Trams combine history and sightseeing. Family-friendly, the beautifully restored trams are one of the city’s best loved attractions. All-day hop-on, hop-off tickets allow you to visit the central city sights at your leisure.
You can explore the best of the central city from the 17 stops enroute, including the Canterbury Museum and Botanic Gardens, Tūranga and Margaret Mahy Playground. The many retail stores, bars and eateries at The Terrace, Cashel Street and New Regent Street offer great shopping and dining options.
Stop at a bustling café for coffee, brunch, lunch or just to refuel. For lunch checkout the Riverside Market, Five Lanes, Little High Eatery or the Friday Street Food Market. Great choices all of them, and suitable for singles, couples, families and other groups.
Whether it’s post-work drinks with colleagues, or a wholesome family dinner in the CBD – Christchurch has you covered. Victoria Street is an epic place to start for a cheeky cocktail or two, and afterwards you may be tempted to cut some shapes on the dance floor at any of Christchurch’s lively bars and clubs.
Those in the culture club don’t have to look far to find something to occupy their time, with libraries, museums, art centres, loads of galleries and colourful street art dotted throughout central city streets. Get out and explore.
