Christchurch is set to be a hub of activity with a packed summer events calendar under way.

The Special Olympics National Summer Games are at Parakiore from 10 to 14 December, with the official opening of the city’s newest recreation and sports centre just around the corner.

The Council has heaps of summer events lined up, starting with NYE 25 and the NYE Kids’ Countdown.

Anthony Harper Summer Theatre returns to the Botanic Gardens in January – always a favourite – this time with a playful spin on Tolkein’s epic trilogy, The Lord of The Rings.

This year has flown by, and an even bigger, better one awaits.

I can’t wait for One New Zealand stadium to open in April 2026. Construction is on track so we’re well on our way to becoming the country’s sports and events capital.

For now, I’m looking forward to catching up with family over the summer break.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy New Year.
