Canterbury architectural designs celebrated


Judges ran out of superlatives for 18 winning designs at the 2024 Canterbury/Westland ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards in mid-August 2024.

Drayton House

Eighteen projects won prestigious awards, including a two-bedroom treehouse with lovely views of the Avon River, a dramatic man cave with space for a DJ booth and an expansive vehicle collection, along with a masterful ‘off-the-grid’ house.

The award-winning designers are:

Darren O’Neil of O’Neil + Architecture, regional award for New Home over 300m2 and regional ADNZ Resene Kaitiakitanga Award.
Hailey Sinke & Dan McCormick, Performance Architecture, Highly commended for New Home up to 150m2, and regional ADNZ Resene Kaitiakitanga Award.
Don Roy of Site Architecture Limited, regional award for New Home between 150m2 and 300m2.
Barry Connor of Barry Connor Design, regional award for Residential Alterations and Additions.
Ben Comber of Studio Now, commended for New Home up to 150m2, highly commended for Home Interiors, and Resene Colour in Design.
Sam Connell of Figure & Ground, regional award for New Home over 300m2, and highly commended for Home Interiors.

Sam Connell & Josh Binnie of Figure & Ground, highly commended for Multi-Unit Housing.
Chris Wheeler of Hierarchy Group, highly commended,
New Home between 150m2 and 300m2, Multi-Unit Housing, regional award for Home Interiors.
Simon Johnson of Figure & Ground, commended for Residential Alterations and Additions.
Garry Mayne of Chilton + Mayne Architecture Ltd, highly commended for Residential Alterations and Additions, commended for New Home over 300m2
David Chilton of Chilton + Mayne Architecture Ltd, regional award for Residential Alterations and Additions, and commended for Home Interiors.
Mitchell Coll of Fabric, highly commended for New Home over 300m2, regional award for New Home over 300m2, and highly commended for Commercial Architecture.
Daniel Webb of Threefold Architecture, regional award for Commercial Interiors and Fitouts, and highly commended for Resene Colour in Design.

The National ADNZ Resene Architectural Design Awards will be held in Rotorua on 1 November. All regional award winners are automatically eligible to win a national award.
