Building your special nest: Nest Residential
Delivering high performing homes at affordable prices is the dedicated aim of a Christchurch property development firm specialising in passive and energy efficient houses.
Based in Christchurch, the company’s approach to developing homes differentiates from many spec home developers, as it embeds passive house and energy efficiency measures into each home. “Our aim is to deliver these high performing houses at a price more New Zealanders can afford,” says Nest Residential director Simon Fenwick.
Nest Residential began in 2014 as a partnership between Simon Fenwick and Mark Teesdale, who see projects through from purchasing the site to handing over the keys. “We build bespoke homes (not cookie-cutters) and always demand a location, standard, and specification, that we would be proud to own ourselves,” says Simon.
In the last six plus years, Nest developments in Christchurch have been snapped up by buyers, from first-homers to retirees. One satisfied home owner is Jess Wood, in Addington. Her house was half built when she met Simon. “As a first home buyer, he welcomed me on to the construction site and gave me a top to bottom tour, pointing out all the features and details that make this euro style house so special,” Jess recalls.
“My house just keeps on giving. It’s unbelievably warm, and the design has proven extremely versatile. My partner and I have rearranged the furniture multiple times, and added new pieces in, and the spaces work in heaps of various ways, which is fantastic considering our needs have changed over the years.
“The differences between stock standard, mass produced developments and Nest Residential homes is very clear. Being future ready, these houses remain marketable to future renters and buyers due to the love and care taken in designing them.
“My neighbour in my Nest is Simon. I mean, how many developers believe in their builds so much that they actually live in one full time. I couldn’t have been more pleased to buy a Nest,” says Jess.
