Ask the experts: Brides of Merivale
“When should I start looking for my dress?”, is one question commonly asked, among others, by brides-to-be. Here are some of those questions, with answers from Brides of Merivale.
When should I start looking for my dress?
Start the search for your gown at least 8-10 months prior to your wedding. If you choose a gown that needs to be ordered in for you, it can take 4-5 1/2 months to arrive from the time the order is placed. We like to ensure your gown has arrived in store with plenty of time so there is no undue stress before the wedding.
Do I need to make an appointment to come in?
Yes. Our showroom is open by appointment only to ensure you have the entire space privately booked. It gives brides the freedom to browse through our gowns then spend time with their friends and family uninterrupted.
How many people should I bring with me?
We recommend 2-4 people. Often it can be an overwhelming experience for brides and too many opposing or strong opinions can be confusing. Choose your support crew carefully ensuring they will all have your vision and are supportive of your preferences.
What type of dresses do you have?
Brides of Merivale stock a carefully curated range of gowns from leading designers including Made with Love, Jessica Bridal, Kellylin Couture and Miss Scarlett Bridal. We also offer a Bespoke Made to Measure service so you can have a ‘one-off’ design created specifically to your needs.
What if part of a dress isn’t quite right for me?
We can fix that. Some of our brands are flexible with their designs and if not, we can change or add details such as sleeves, bows, buttons etc, at the alteration stage.
Will I need alterations?
Most Ready-Made gowns will need some alterations to ensure an individualised fit. We have an instore alterations service, and our expert consultants will personally alter your gown for you. We recommend alterations are completed in the last 8 weeks leading up to your wedding. If a bride does not live in Christchurch, we offer an express fitting service, completing alterations over 2 weekdays.
What is trending right now?
Minimalistic styles are trending. These can be figure-hugging or fuller skirts. There is a strong influence of ruching, pleating, or exposed boning featured. Despite this, we are also seeing brides asking for modern laces with 3D aspects and glamour beading. Buttons and pearls are popular along with feature veils and bold accessories. Creating a changeable vibe to your gown for the reception is also popular.
