Picaridin, an active ingredient produced to mimic black pepper plant properties, has a broad efficacy against various insects and is recommended by the World Health Organisation as a repellent of choice for malaria prevention. And unlike DEET (which has a chemical name, N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide), it does not dissolve plastics and has exceptional cosmetic properties – it’s gentle on the skin, non-greasy, non-sticky, and smells nice.

“Most importantly, it’s non-toxic and safe for your whole family to use, including pregnant women and children from six months old.” James formed Skin Technology 11 years ago when he heard about the ingredient, which dominates the insect repellent market in Europe. He collaborated with local manufacturers to create a premium product, containing 25 per cent picaridin – the highest strength available worldwide – offering protection for up to 14 hours after application.
